Project WWWT Day 35~36 of 72 - Prague, Czech Republic

21st~22nd June 2017

Dobry Den, precrasna Praha! That's "Hello, beautiful Prague" (Hopefully I got this right. Vendula, if you are reading this, let me know if this is correct). We are arriving here with huge expectation and excitement as we are meeting with my ex-colleague who is a local Czechian from Prague. We took a flight from Dublin Airport to Prague Airport with RyanAir and reached around 11PM although we are expected to reach an hour earlier, no thanks to the flight delay. We took a Taxi Van to our accomodation in Praha 5 and that costs us Kc700 or approximately €28.00.

We are staying in an apartment called Apartment U Vahy. It is situated in Praha 5, right opposite a bus station. The windows have sound prove capability although when tram passes by, there are shaking/vibration as this is an old building (100 years and counting). There are no lift and air conditioning. It takes awhile to walk to the Prague Castle, I wouldn't do that. Seems like a pretty drab place to stay right? Wrong! When we reached, the apartment owner arranged for a friend of hers whom is a chinese national residing in Prague for close to 20 years to greet and communicate with us. The apartment owner greet us personally at the front door and her husband helped us move all our luggages up 3 storeys to our unit! We mentioned to her about the heat and requested for a fan (in Czechian language, fan is their hairdryer) and the husband bought us one. The next day, they bought us a new fan! She even bought our sons a soft toy each and some colour pencils & papers. I asked her about some cooking utensils and she responded immediately by bringing up a tonne of cooking utensils. I would say that this is one of the best apartment that we have lived in! For travelling around Prague, we just call for UBER and it is very affordable. Most of the time, it costs us between Kc65~120 which is a mere €2.70~€6.00 each way! This placed made us feel so welcomed that we are very heavy hearted when we leave and kind of missed the owners. It seems like they are more of a family than a landlord. Highly recommended!

The apartment is also near to a couple of supermart where you could get your groceries. There is a Carrefour within 5 minutes walk. There is also a Albert Market within 3 minutes walk. If that is not enough, you will get a farmer's market outside Albert Market on Fridays too! The produce there are superb! Make it a must visit! If you wanted fast food, there are KFC, McDonalds and TGI Fridays (OK, the latter is not a fast food) nearby. The location is really convenient. IF you are thinking of having a day's excursion to the suburbs, you can just go opposite the apartment. What else can one ask for? Oh, you want a bar? It's just downstairs. There is also a tourism office around the corner.

We did not do much on the first day as we reached late, everyone was totally spent! We stayed in the apartment most of the second day too except for the meeting with my ex-colleague whom is a local. We met up at Vysehrad and had a walk around the garden. The garden gives you a wonderful panoramic view of Prague and it would be wonderful if the day we visited was not cloudy but with clear blue skies. Most of the walk is easy but if you have a stroller, you will need to carry it at some point to descend/ascend staircase. We ended the walk with a dinner at the restaurant within the Vysehrad itself. The food is wonderful although the price is not really cheap considering us dining in Prague, but I have no complain because the food is really good. Thanks Vendula! The place is called Rio's Vysehrad, check it out!

That's all for now. Look forward for my posting on Prague where we explore the old and charming, may I add mysterious town of Prague!

Some photos of the day are shown below.
