Project WWWT Day 6 of 72 - Bruges, Belgium

24 May 2017

Today is a slow day but it ws intended to be slow as the walking we did yesterday took its toll on us. Although I said slow, it doesn't mean we have little walking... we had equally long walk if not more albeit... slow.

We brought the kids to chase the 4 windmills located in Bruges. If you are travelling with your children, this is a must do. The walk is actually quite enjoyable but when you are travelling with children, I'd recommend to cover 2 windmills, the first two and forget the other 2 located slightly to the north of Bruges. All the windmills are not open for visitor except the second windmill, the Sint Janshuis windmill. The admission price is €3 per adult and children below 12 years old can visit for free. The view from atop the windmill is beautiful, make sure you go all the way up. You can see from the photo below that the steps are quite steep and your child may be a little apprehensive in going up, but keep encouraging them. The attendant stationed at the windmill will guide the young ones on the proper method to scale those steps whether it is going up or down.

Although these windmills has been around for a long time, the windmill is still working but instead of being used extensively for grinding flour for human consumption, it is used to ground grains, husk and other fibrous matters for farm feed.

The 4 windmills are also located in a lush green part of Bruges (Yes, Bruges has other green areas besides Begijnhof and Minnewater Park) and is absolutely wonderful for jogging, cycling, picnics and perhaps any other activities including kite flying.
