Project WWWT Day 44 of 72 - Vienna, Austria

30th June 2017

Although we have visited Schonbrunn Tiergarten, it is only a small part of the Schonbrunn Palace compound. We have two choices today viz. 1) Visit the Schonbrunn Palace compound; or 2) The Heldenplatz where you get access to the Burggarten, parliament building, Hofbug Palace, St. Michael Church etc. We decided to go with the Schonbrunn Tiergarten solely because Naaman has nagged us the day before that he wanted to sit on the train i.e. the transport that brings you around the whole Schonbrunn Tiergarten compound.

You can board the train at any stop and alight at any location you wished plus the ticket allows you to board any of the train for the entire day. Think it like a hop-on-hop-off bus. As it is with a tourist attraction, always board at the first station at the Schonbrunn Palace and forget about the second or third stop because it is almost guaranteed that no one will alight at those stop as it does not have anything special to see. The other stops may have its own attraction but you will not be able to get there by taxi but have to walk a distance before reaching them, so remember this... BOARD AT THE PALACE.

The train will pass by the Zoo and the Botanical Garden but what we are interested is the top of the hill where you will get the best view. In fact, this is Maria Theresa's favourite spot for afternoon tea. There is an indoor cafe up there as well as the much needed toilet. You can also access the top of the structure by paying a small fee.

We rests at the hill for a while before making our way back down again. Our next stop is the Palmenhaus or the Glass house. You will need to pay a €6.00 per pax but its really nothing much. Perhaps it will be exciting for people whom has not seen much of tropical plants before, but for us, I advise to skip this. The photo of the palmenhaus from the outside makes for a beautiful photo, and that's about it.

We then proceeded to stroll through the garden between the Palmenhaus to the Palace Garden. The walk is very enjoyable and we were talking about how beautiful this garden will be during Autumn. Anyway, we noted that there is a Rose Garden as well as the Wisteria Garden here BUT as per our trip to Florence, we are too late as the flowers has either bloomed or did not bloom yet. The garden is beautiful despite the rose and wisteria so do give it a go.

Some other photos of the day are shown below. Tomorrow, we will be travelling to the city of The Sound Of Music!
