Paris in 6 Days (Day 3)

22nd Dec 2009Musee de Louvre

The Louvre museum is the largest museum in the world followed by the British Museum and The Vatican Museum! The total area of this museum records approximately 1000 square meter. It is totally impossible to truly appreciate all the items housed in this museum in one single day. Our own experience taught us that even to do a quick touch-and-go on all items, it is impossible to see all the collections here (That is if your leg and neck doesn’t kill you first… keeping high motivation for the whole day towards arts and sculptures and artifacts will definitely finish you off). Anyway, to start it off, we didn’t really spend the whole day in the Louvre per see as we woke up a little late thanks to the comfy bed and strolled to the Louvre instead of taking the metro.

As usual, enjoying our DIY sandwich lunch

Want to make a guess who this is?? That's right, Hercules!
Giving the Minotaur a good bash with his club.

Strolling along Champ Elysees is always fun and the walk is not that far BUT to not conserve energy while planning to visit the Louvre is a mistake. Prior to reaching the Louvre, you will reach the Tuileries first and here you will see plenty of beautiful floral arrangement in the gardens … provided if you are there during the summer and spring. During winter, its all bare… However, we do have a good time feeding the fat and puffy sparrows here. My wife even managed to coax some of them to pick the bread up from her hands. What’s funny though is that while she was totally focused on feeding the sparrow, a pigeon suddenly appeared from nowhere and picked the bread from her hand and that shocked her to no end… hehehe.

These sparrows looked so skinny...
But these looked plumb and... ripe?

While enjoying feeding the sparrow, a rogue pigeon
made a bold attempt on the bread that sent my wife shrieking!

Got a shot of my wife's reaction..teehee~

Aerial attempt!

This sculture is so real it looked like on of my friends Janiice

Ah, so sweet. Even in their potraits they can't keep their eyes from each other.
Errr... or was it supposed to be the other way round i.e. face off?

The scultures are truly life like

We entered the Louvre probably around 1pm. We rented two audio guides for the visit and take note that they would request you to either give them your ID or driving license card prior to renting you the audio machine (Fabulous piece of gadget!). The audio guide is like a PDA and you would have to key in the collection item’s code number to hear the narration or you could also opt for the “Tour Selection” that was made available in the machine. We just opt for the input selection, as it seemed to be the easier way. I personally am more fascinated by the sculpting than the drawings but of course, the drawings are the main draw with plenty of famous pieces such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the works by the Carravagio’s bros and the likes.

Enough talking and let us just see the photos of some of the more beautiful pieces that captivates me above all others in the Museum.

The Raft of the Medusa

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa man have named you~

Shots taken by my wife
I've taken some blue hour shots but to my horror, the camera
is set to the Auto ISO! It set the ISO at 1600!!!! Arrgghh!
Good thing I still managed to realised that and took this shot...
I still love one during the blue hour though
